Weekend Workshop with Louisa Sear: Living Principles of Yoga

We are very honored to welcome Louisa Sear and Nikhil Leal back to Ghent! Louisa is one of those very special people you come across when you are on the Yoga Path. From 1994 till 2004 Louisa was the director of the Yoga Arts Teacher Training Program, the famous nine-month (fulltime!) teacher training course in Byron Bay, Australia. This makes Louisa one of the most experienced yoga teachers in the world. She has been practicing yoga over 37 years and studied extensively with the late Sri . K. Pattabhi Jois (Ashtanga Advanced Series) and B.K.S. Iyengar. Today Yoga Arts still offers excellent teacher trainings of the 200 and 300 hour format in Ubud, Bali.
Workshop 1: Friday 17th May 19.00-21.00 h
Part 1 - Sthira & Sukha
Finding the qualities of strength, stability, comfortability and ease in Asana (yoga posture) looking at the factors that will help to cultivate these qualities in action.
Part 2 - Slow Vinyasa Asana & Pranayama
Focusing on the principes of Sthira & Sukha, breath, dristi, stillness, mindful and conscious movement, attaining and sustaining, Dharana.
Workshop 2: Saturday 18th May 14.30-17.30 h
Part 1 - Ayurveda & Yoga
An introduction into understanding the principles of Ayurveda to inform our Yoga Sadhana and our life. Awareness of the fundamental qualities that exist in everything and everyone to balance and pacify any afflicted energies.
Part 2 – Suryanamaskar & Pranayama
Enliven, vitalize! Breath of Life! Rejuvenate the nervous system, calm the mind and build 'Ojas Vitality' with simple pranayama rhythms.

Part 2 - Slow Flow Vinyasa & Pranayama Incorporating Simple Mantra’s
Focusing on a state of one pointed, undivided presence on breath, dristi, mantra, stillness in movement and movement in stillness. The qualities of 'Stillness Devotion' and 'Presence' move our practice from the more physical to the sublime. Yoga ultimately is freedom. Through the conscious use of Yogic tools to guide us, we transcend, bringing our gaze inward, coming closer to 'the state of Yoga' the loving union of Shiva & Shakti.

Part 1 - Vichara Sadhana - Self Inquiry - Philosophy
What stops us from 'waking up' and what is it to be 'awake'. Louisa in her talks gives simple insights into the nature of the mind, how we can bring this philosophy into our lives.

Introduction to the theory and practice of Yoga Nidra.
Louisa Sear - Teaching
Louisa has dedicated her life to the practice and teaching of Yoga. She is passionate in the inquiry to find ones true nature and freedom. In her teaching, Louisa encourages the understanding and acceptance of life, finding the teacher within and acknowledging the Divine in all. Louisa has been teaching yoga for 34 years and has had a committed Yoga Sadhana practice for over 37 years. She teaches the principles of Tantric Advaita Philosophy and specializes in Self Inquiry, Therapeutic Yoga, Ayurveda Lifestyle, Mindful Vinyasa Asana, Pranayama & Meditation. Louisa encourages students to develop inwardly by diving deeply into oneself to awaken through mindful conscious practice on and off the mat.
Nikhil Leal – Assisting
As a child, in Brazil, Nikhil was introduced, by his mother, to the Brazilian Shamanic world of Native Indian and African Mythologies. By 17 Nikhil pursued his passion in theatre and for more than 25 years this became his vocation throughout Brazil, Italy and Germany. Nikhil’s love of Spirituality and creativity then took him to India, the motherland of Yoga. Nikhil studied at the SVYASA University in Bangalore focusing on meditation and the 4 Paths of Yoga. A constant object of study for Nikhil is Eastern Philosophy including; the paths of the Sufis and Tao leading to one’s single point in life – Joy and devotion to all living beings. Nikhil’s other passion is Conscious Cooking! where he delights us with his vegetarian/vegan & Ayurvedic cuisine on our Yoga Retreats. Nikhil teaches and assists on the Yoga Arts’ 200 & 300 hour Yoga Teacher Trainings and Yoga Rejuvenation Retreats.
